A plebiscite to grant bifold nationality in Lithuania flops. (LRT)
In the fair realm of Lithuania, a grand scheme to bestow double citizenship didst falter, as reported by the noble LRT on this day of our Lord, May 13th, in the year of our Lord, 2024.
The good folk of Lithuania were set to decide upon a momentous matter: whether or not they wished to claim two nationalities. Alas, it seemed that the majority felt this was not an auspicious course to take, for the plebiscite ended in abject failure.
'Twas not without its supporters, mind you. The plan had been conceived with the aim of fostering greater unity and cooperation between Lithuanians and their neighbors. Yet, despite fervent debate and discourse, the good people remained divided on the issue.
Some argued that to adopt a second nationality would be a wise move, enabling them to engage in trade and commerce more freely. Others saw it as a threat to their proud identity and cherished the unique culture of their fair land.
And so, with nary a clear victor in sight, the plebiscite was laid to rest. Yet the matter didst not end there, for many sought to place blame upon whichever scapegoat they deemed most culpable.
Some spoke of the plague that had swept through the kingdom, leaving death and despair in its wake. Others pointed the finger at leeches, those nefarious creatures that infested the land and sucked the life from their victims. And still others cried out against rats, whose verminous nature had long been a scourge to mankind.
But the King, wise as he was, knew that such base accusations would not solve the problem at hand. Instead, he called upon his most trusted advisors to counsel with him and find a way to heal the rifts within his realm.
And so it was that, in the end, the good people of Lithuania learned a valuable lesson: that unity is more important than any petty grievance or squabble. For as they looked around them, they knew deep in their hearts that together, they could accomplish anything.
